Emily Masalski is an associate with Deutsch, Levy & Engel, practicing in the areas of commercial litigation, environmental law, and banking and creditor’s rights. As counsel to businesses and individuals, Emily has experience in disputes involving breach of contract, title claims, consumer fraud claims, leaking underground storage tanks, trespass, nuisance, and compliance and/or permitting issues under various environmental statutes including the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act (CERLA), and the Illinois Environmental Protection Act. Emily has also been appointed as a Special Assistant Attorney General for the State of Illinois to represent various state agencies in environmental matters.
As counsel to banks and mortgage lenders, Emily manages all aspects of contested and uncontested commercial and residential mortgage foreclosure actions, defends against consumer fraud claims under the Truth in Lending Act (TILA), and represents lenders in housing court actions. She also has experience representing banks that have acquired the assets of a failed bank from the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) as Receiver.
In 2011, Emily was awarded the Illinois State Bar Association’s Young Lawyer of the Year Award (Cook County). She is also among less than 2.5 percent of Illinois attorneys named as an Illinois Rising Star by Illinois Super Lawyers magazine in 2010 & 2011 in the environmental litigation category. She received the American Bar Association, Young Lawyers Division, Star of the Quarter Award in 2010.
Prior to joining the firm in 2007, Emily served as an agency attorney for the New York City Department of Environmental Protection, Wastewater Treatment Bureau.
