Brian Saucier joined Deutsch, Levy & Engel, Chartered in 1994 and became a Principal in 2003. He has represented clients in state and federal courts at both the trial and appellate levels. Mr. Saucier also represents clients in intellectual property transactions, including assignments, domestic and international licensing, and registration and maintenance of trademarks and copyrights. He also counsels clients on e-commerce issues, such as domain name maintenance and protection, website terms of service provisions, adherence to the Digital Millennium Copyright Act and other Internet-related matters. Mr. Saucier has also represented media clients in a First Amendment challenge to a Chicago Ordinance banning alcohol and tobacco billboards, represented media entities in libel and slander cases and has represented physicians, lawyers, professionals, businesses and labor organizations in Chicago libel, slander and privacy cases. For example, in representing a prominent Chicago law firm, Mr. Saucier, together with partners Paul Levy and Phillip Zisook, successfully asserted the defense of opinion for media statements regarding the “incompetence” of a U.S. Senator's campaign treasurer. The Illinois Appellate Court held that the statement constituted non-actionable opinion and could not support a defamation action. In another case, Mr. Saucier successfully defended a former Chicago Alderman in a defamation case regarding campaign statements made about an opposing candidate, on the basis of the application of the then-newly enacted Illinois anti-SLAPP statute. In 2008, Mr. Saucier was elected as a Precinct Committeeman for Wheatland Township in Naperville. Education
