PRIEST SUES ACCUSERS FOR DEFAMATION

In November, 2006, DLE attorneys Phillip J. Zisook, Brian D. Saucier and Paul M. Levy filed a lawsuit on behalf of Chicago-area Roman Catholic priest, Reverend Robert Stepek. The complaint asserts counts for defamation against two men who recently accused Reverend Stepek of sexually molesting them more than twenty years ago, when they were youths. Father Stepek vehemently denies molesting the men, and asserts that their false accusations have damaged his reputation. The case is one of the first in the country where an accused priest has attempted to clear his name by asserting his legal rights through a defamation action in civil court.

The case has been widely reported in the Chicago media and is one of many high-profile matters handled by DLE in the area of speech and First Amendment law. For more information, contact DLE attorneys Phillip J. Zisook, Brian D. Saucier.
